DO IT STANDING UP
Stand Up Paddling: a royal Hawaiian sport, now becoming a new craze and the World's quickest growing watersport.
Standing up on top of the ocean, leaning your body weight on the paddle that drives you over the sea. Listen to the sound of the board cutting through the water and enjoy the sparkle from the water's reflection ahead. A grand new way to appreciate a fabulous core workout and take any wave for a ride.
Stand Up paddling can be learned in 5 minutes and be enjoyed on any lake, river or ocean. It is great fun cross-training sport. The Stand Up Paddle board is easy to put onto the roof of a car, comfortable to carry to the beach and convenient to store. The advantage of SUP board over a basic surf board is the added width and volume that allows you to stand up and use a paddle, thus get more power and speed.
When you take off on the wave, you are already standing up surfing. The paddle acts like a balancing pole, making it easier to turn and keep your balance. Dave Kalama and Laird Hamilton are currently the best known SUP athletes, Mark Raaphorst the most progressive shaper and Jeff Henderson recognized for bridging SUP with wavesailing.
With two mast track bolts positioned under the EVA pad, Starboard's SUP boards become a windsurfer's lightwind waverider and freestyler, perfect for old school freestyle tricks and surfing any wave, any time.
Starboard also offers a range of paddles: a lightweight high-performance Carbon paddle, an Alloy version and an Adjustable Alloy version. The Carbon and Alloy versions come in a fixed length that can be cut down to the rider's ideal length. The Adjustable Alloy paddle has an twin push-pin adjustable system that provides a firm, rattle-free range from 190 to 220cm.
The difference between the 2 sizes:
The 12'2" x 26 5/8" more towards SUP surfi ng ,better suited for light wind wave sailing and more athletic/experienced riders.
The 12'6" x 30" more stability for SUP and light wind freestyle due to extra stability through added width.
The new Starboard SUP Fixed Carbon Paddle is a high performance lightweight paddle designed
exclusively for Stand Up Paddling.
The Fixed Alloy Paddle features a composite glass blade with an alloy shaft for performance and greater value.
The paddles are suitable for stand up paddlers of any height with their maximum length of 220cm.
They are supplied without the handle fitted: the shaft can therefore be cut down to the right length before the handle is inserted and glued to the shaft tip.
A good rule of thumb for finding the ideal paddle length: have the shaft length equal to the distance from your toes to your eyes (see diagram).
The Adjustable Alloy Paddle extends from 190cm to 220cm with twin push-pins that offer a firm, rattle-free locking mechanism.
All paddle shafts and handles come with a grippy satin finish. The blades have a high-gloss polished finish, the glass blades are red for easy spotting in the surf. |
